FlyBe has announced that Berlin will be a new destination from Cardiff Airport in the early release of its Winter schedule.

The new flight will commence on the 2nd November 2016 and will operate twice per week leaving Cardiff (CWL/EGFF) at 10:10 am and arriving at Berlin Tegel (TXL/EDDT) at 13:20 pm (local time) on Wednesdays and Saturdays over the winter period.

Berlin is Germany’s Capital and also its cultural centre. It was regarded as the Front Line for the Cold War after being divided by the infamous Berlin Wall. It is known for its vibrant nightlife, shopping and arts scene.

The news came as Flybe announced they were also increasing the frequency of their Glasgow and Geneva routes. Glasgow is being increased to 11 flights per week and Geneva will increase to 3 flights per week.

The Exeter-based airline also announced it was making the Paris flight an earlier departure to allow for longer day trips to the French capital.

Listening to passengers

According to Vincent Hodder, Flybe’s Chief Revenue Officer, releasing the winter early schedule was because “many of our customers have told us they want to plan ahead in order to take advantage of the lowest possible fares so we have ensured that this year we have put the majority of our 2016-17 Winter programme on sale extra early.

Cardiff Airport Managing Director Deb Barber said “It is fantastic to see the airline responding to the demands of the Welsh market by adding additional capacity and another new route to its network”

Minister for Economy, Science and Transport, Edwina Hart said “The addition of this new Flybe route to Berlin is great news for Welsh passengers and the tourism industry and a sign of growing confidence in Cardiff Airport. Following the recent increase in passenger numbers, this is another positive step in the continuing development of the Airport.”
