Lisa Mahony | Guardians of the Wild
Opening Reception Friday 13th of November 7pm to 9pm Guardians of the wild: My first solo exhibition “Guardians of the Wild” is a sculptural exploration of native Irish animals - especially Foxes- and the occasional exotic animal. In my sculptures I seek to capture the expressive movement and characters of the animals. The incomplete fox sculpture is representative of this- a glimpse from the corner of the eye as a fox moves thru the vegetation. I work in many different materials. In “Guardians of the Wild “ I have created pieces in ceramic, cardboard, papier-mâché and wool fibres. I balance the higher environmental impact of my ceramic work with the use of recycled materials- cardboard and various types of paper. The wool fibre is a renewable material that I source from Irish producers. These materials allow me the freedom to explore forms that I could not achieve in ceramics due to construction and firing limitations. About the artist: Lisa Mahony is a Wicklow based multimedia artist with a passion for sculpture and ceramics. Lisa creates work inspired by the flora , fauna , patterns and textures of nature. Lisa has previously had work in Sculpture in Context- Botanic Gardens Dublin, Clay works- Dublin Castle And several groups exhibitions in Signal Arts centre.
