If you are looking to get away this winter for either a city-break with a difference or a skiing trip then you could do a lot worse than visiting Chambery, France.
Located in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France, Chambery is an attractive and lively town which lies on the shores of Lake Bourget, the biggest natural lake in France.
The history of Chambery is closely linked to the House of Savoy and was the Savoyard capital from 1295 to 1563, something the town is very proud of. As a result you can feel the Italian atmosphere of the Old Town and its maze of hidden alleyways, its pedestrian streets ideal for a leisurely stroll and its coloured Sardinian-style facades.
Apart from it’s beautiful architecture, good food & wine, and friendly people there are many vineyards in the area that visitors can enjoy and for the more adventurous, the area offers lots recreational activities including sailing and rock climbing.
Of course one of the main reasons to come to Chambery in the winter is the fantastic skiing available in the area. The region known as “The 3 Valleys” or “3 Vallées” is one of the most desired destinations for skiers across the world with its world-famous resorts of Courchevel les Ménuires, Méribel and Val Thorens.
